Its objective is precise.\u00a0<span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\">Introduce\u00a0<strong>Indian astronauts<\/strong>\u00a0into\u00a0<strong>the low Earth orbit<\/strong>\u00a0of approximately\u00a0<strong>400 kilometres<\/strong>.<\/span>\u00a0Have <strong data-start=\"499\" data-end=\"513\">three days<\/strong> with them. Return them to the safety of the <strong data-start=\"558\" data-end=\"572\">Indian sea<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"575\" data-end=\"626\">No shortcuts. No borrowed rockets. No shared flags.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"628\" data-end=\"913\">It has been made clear by the <strong data-start=\"658\" data-end=\"686\">ISRO Chairman, S Somanath<\/strong>. This mission is concerning the <strong data-start=\"719\" data-end=\"738\">ability to show<\/strong>.\u00a0<span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\">In case successful,\u00a0<strong>India is a member of an exclusive club<\/strong>.<\/span>\u00a0This has not been done previously except by the <strong data-start=\"858\" data-end=\"874\">Soviet Union<\/strong>, the <strong data-start=\"880\" data-end=\"897\">United States<\/strong>, and <strong data-start=\"903\" data-end=\"912\">China<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"915\" data-end=\"970\">This is not symbolism. This is <strong data-start=\"946\" data-end=\"969\">systems engineering<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"977\" data-end=\"1000\"><strong data-start=\"980\" data-end=\"1000\">Why 2026 Matters<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1002\" data-end=\"1117\">In line with <strong data-start=\"1015\" data-end=\"1023\">ISRO<\/strong>, the first <strong data-start=\"1035\" data-end=\"1068\">human-crewed Gaganyaan launch<\/strong> is expected to take place by the <strong data-start=\"1101\" data-end=\"1116\">end of 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1119\" data-end=\"1202\">Prior to that, <strong data-start=\"1134\" data-end=\"1161\">three uncrewed missions<\/strong> should be successful. <strong data-start=\"1184\" data-end=\"1202\">No exceptions.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1204\" data-end=\"1430\">The initial uncrewed flight will take place at the <strong data-start=\"1255\" data-end=\"1285\">beginning of next year<\/strong>. It was supposed to be held in <strong data-start=\"1317\" data-end=\"1329\">December<\/strong> but was\u00a0<span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\">rescheduled due to\u00a0<strong>technical issues<\/strong><\/span>. That delay is not a setback. That is not marketing language. It is a <strong data-start=\"2165\" data-end=\"2183\">humanoid robot<\/strong> that is aimed at <strong data-start=\"2201\" data-end=\"2243\">imitating the human situation in space<\/strong>. It will control <strong data-start=\"2261\" data-end=\"2282\">module parameters<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"2284\" data-end=\"2310\">environmental controls<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"2315\" data-end=\"2336\">mission sequences<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2339\" data-end=\"2402\">If <strong data-start=\"2357\" data-end=\"2376\">Vyammitra fails<\/strong>, the <strong data-start=\"2382\" data-end=\"2401\">astronauts wait<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2404\" data-end=\"2432\">That is how serious this is.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"2439\" data-end=\"2482\"><strong data-start=\"2442\" data-end=\"2482\">Astronauts Are Named. Training Is On<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2484\" data-end=\"2548\">India has already given names to their <strong data-start=\"2523\" data-end=\"2547\">astronaut-designates<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2550\" data-end=\"2675\"><strong data-start=\"2550\" data-end=\"2661\">Group Captains Prasanth Balakrishnan Nair, Angad Pratap, Ajit Krishnan and Wing Commander Shubhanshu Shukla<\/strong> are the ones.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2677\" data-end=\"2764\">The names are not ritual names. They are actively involved in\u00a0<strong>mission preparedness<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2766\" data-end=\"2919\">Training is ongoing. <strong data-start=\"2787\" data-end=\"2821\">Familiarisation of the systems<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"2823\" data-end=\"2849\">simulation of missions<\/strong>, and <strong data-start=\"2851\" data-end=\"2875\">emergency procedures<\/strong>. The low churn that seldom breaks the news.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2921\" data-end=\"2972\">It is there that <strong data-start=\"2938\" data-end=\"2971\">spaceflight is won in reality<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"2979\" data-end=\"3021\">July 2025 Propulsion Milestone in the Gaganyaan Mission<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"3023\" data-end=\"3079\">ISRO made a <strong data-start=\"3035\" data-end=\"3058\">silent breakthrough<\/strong> on <strong data-start=\"3062\" data-end=\"3078\">July 3, 2025<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3081\" data-end=\"3270\"><strong data-start=\"3081\" data-end=\"3127\">Gaganyaan Service Module Propulsion System<\/strong> Two hot tests of the <strong data-start=\"3149\" data-end=\"3195\">Gaganyaan Service Module Propulsion System<\/strong> were successfully made at the <strong data-start=\"3226\" data-end=\"3269\">ISRO Propulsion Complex in Mahendragiri<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3272\" data-end=\"3335\">One test ran for <strong data-start=\"3289\" data-end=\"3303\">30 seconds<\/strong>. The other for <strong data-start=\"3319\" data-end=\"3334\">100 seconds<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3337\" data-end=\"3393\">The findings were in line with <strong data-start=\"3368\" data-end=\"3392\">pre test predictions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3395\" data-end=\"3605\">This is important since the <strong data-start=\"3423\" data-end=\"3431\">SMPS<\/strong> is an <strong data-start=\"3438\" data-end=\"3458\">essential system<\/strong>. It deals with <strong data-start=\"3474\" data-end=\"3497\">orbital manoeuvring<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"3502\" data-end=\"3522\">abort situations<\/strong>. <strong data-start=\"3524\" data-end=\"3605\">Abort systems are not supplementary in human spaceflight. They are lifelines.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3607\" data-end=\"3785\">The system has <strong data-start=\"3622\" data-end=\"3658\">five Liquid Apogee Motor engines<\/strong>, each generating <strong data-start=\"3676\" data-end=\"3701\">440 Newtons of thrust<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"3706\" data-end=\"3751\">sixteen Reaction Control System thrusters<\/strong>, each generating <strong data-start=\"3769\" data-end=\"3784\">100 Newtons<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3787\" data-end=\"3964\">In the extended test, ISRO has\u00a0<strong data-start=\"3853\" data-end=\"3930\"><span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\">demonstrated that\u00a0<strong>all thrusters and engines can operate<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0in different modes simultaneously<\/strong>. <strong data-start=\"3932\" data-end=\"3964\">Steady. Pulsed. Coordinated.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3966\" data-end=\"4040\">This is not progressive improvement. This is <strong data-start=\"4011\" data-end=\"4039\">validation of confidence<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4042\" data-end=\"4122\"><span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\">These findings have paved the way for a\u00a0<strong>full-duration hot test<\/strong> followed by ISRO.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"4129\" data-end=\"4178\"><strong data-start=\"4132\" data-end=\"4178\">What is Different in The Gaganyaan Mission<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"4180\" data-end=\"4239\">The <strong data-start=\"4184\" data-end=\"4205\">Gaganyaan Mission<\/strong> is not in the chase for headlines.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4241\" data-end=\"4433\">It is being constructed on <strong data-start=\"4268\" data-end=\"4299\">conservative design margins<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"4301\" data-end=\"4321\">multi-redundancy,<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"4333\" data-end=\"4359\">incremental validation<\/strong>. By the standards of <strong data-start=\"4586\" data-end=\"4624\">human spaceflight around the world<\/strong>, that is small.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4642\" data-end=\"4790\">This is not cost efficiency in terms of <strong data-start=\"4682\" data-end=\"4700\">corner-cutting<\/strong>. It concerns <strong data-start=\"4714\" data-end=\"4736\">indigenous systems<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"4738\" data-end=\"4758\">in-house testing<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"4763\" data-end=\"4789\">institutional learning<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"4797\" data-end=\"4836\"><strong data-start=\"4800\" data-end=\"4836\">Cost, Capability and Credibility<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"4838\" data-end=\"4956\">If\u00a0<strong>Gaganyaan is successful<\/strong>, India will be the\u00a0<strong>fourth country<\/strong> to independently launch humans into space.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4958\" data-end=\"4986\">That changes <strong data-start=\"4971\" data-end=\"4985\">perception<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4988\" data-end=\"5183\">It enhances India\u2019s position in\u00a0<strong>international space cooperation<\/strong>.\u00a0It promotes <strong data-start=\"5078\" data-end=\"5104\">strategic independence<\/strong>. It confirms the decades of popular investment in <strong data-start=\"5155\" data-end=\"5182\">science and engineering<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5185\" data-end=\"5240\">More to the point, it instils <strong data-start=\"5216\" data-end=\"5239\">internal confidence<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5242\" data-end=\"5310\">Large countries do difficult things when they feel they can.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"5317\" data-end=\"5362\"><strong data-start=\"5320\" data-end=\"5362\">Chandrayaan 4 and the Bigger ISRO Play<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"5364\" data-end=\"5471\">As <strong data-start=\"5367\" data-end=\"5380\">Gaganyaan<\/strong> heads toward human spaceflight, <strong data-start=\"5414\" data-end=\"5422\">ISRO<\/strong> is already strategising its next <strong data-start=\"5456\" data-end=\"5470\">lunar leap<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5473\" data-end=\"5658\">The <strong data-start=\"5477\" data-end=\"5494\">Chandrayaan 4<\/strong> is approved by the government. The mission is bound to touch down near the <strong data-start=\"5570\" data-end=\"5596\">south pole of the Moon<\/strong> once again.
